Our History

In 1983, Advance Pharmacy was established by the late Ralph Evers in its current location. It has been a thriving business for 30 plus years, and continues today.

Times certainly have changed over these 30 years. The computer replaced the typewriter. Insurance claims have gone from having to be completed after hours at the kitchen table to being processed electronically at the time of service. The pharmacy has gone from having 2-3 employees to having 6-7, and the number of customers served has more than doubled. Technicians have to be licensed by the State of Missouri now as well. All of our technicians are local people that have been here for at least 5 years, and several employees have worked here many more than that.

In February 2009, Bruce and Sarah Dovin purchased Advance Pharmacy from the late Ralph Evers. Bruce and Sarah both graduated from St Louis College of Pharmacy in 1994, live in Jackson, MO and have two children, Catie and Camille.

Bruce and Sarah run the pharmacy together as co-owners. They work together on occasion, or take turns working so that one of them can be home with their children. Being able to work out a schedule that fits both family and business is a huge bonus. Owning the pharmacy has been a rewarding experience. The Advance Community welcomed us graciously and continues to support our business today.

Although change has occurred, the underlying purpose of the pharmacy remains: to help the people of the Advance community.

Our Staff

At Advance Pharmacy, we think of our staff as our family, and are proud of how hard each person works to make sure your needs are handled accurately and efficiently. We are glad to be part of your community!

Bruce Dovin

My first job was a delivery driver for a small independent pharmacy about 30 miles southeast of Chicago. I knew from that point on I wanted to be a pharmacist. I graduated from St. Louis College of Pharmacy in 1994. I've worked for two independent pharmacies and two big box stores and realized independent pharmacy is where I wanted to be. Owning and working at Advance Pharmacy gives me so many more options to help customers and serve the community. I've been married to my wife and fellow pharmacist for 19 years. We have two beautiful daughters, one of which wants to follow in her parents footsteps and be a pharmacist. If I can help you in any way please feel free to come in and talk to me or call the store. I'm always ready to help!

From the time I was about 13, I knew that the medical field was where I wanted to end up. I have alway had a desire to help make people better. So the summer of 1985, I started my first job in a local hometown pharmacy in Charleston, MO and knew right away that the pharmacy was where I wanted to be. I graduated from St Louis College of Pharmacy in 1994. Aside from about a year in hospital pharmacy I've always worked in a retail setting. Getting to help others and having the person to person interaction is what I enjoy the most!
